Michigan Association of Osteopathic Family Physicians (MAOFP) and Michigan Academy of Family Physicians (MAFP) invite family physicians, family medicine residents and medical students to to advocate for their specialty and their patients by participating in Michigan Family Medicine Advocacy Day.

Advocacy Day is an annual event that provides family medicine advocates a valuable opportunity to meet with state legislators and their staff to discuss and share personal experiences regarding legislative and policy issues impacting access to primary care, the family medicine practice environment, and the patient-physician relationship. Collectively, MAOFP and MAFP represent more than 4,500 family physicians statewide.


2024 Michigan Family Medicine Advocacy Day Recap

Each year, Michigan Association of Osteopathic Family Physicians and Michigan Academy of Family Physicians invite family physicians, family medicine residents, and medical students to downtown Lansing to advocate for family medicine.

On Wednesday, March 20, over 200 participants met with state legislators and their staff to discuss and share personal experiences related to legislative and policy issues impacting access to primary care, the family medicine practice environment, and the patient-physician relationship.

There was an initial hearing on Michigan Senate Bill 279 in the Senate Health Policy Committee, which proposes expansion of scope of practice for advanced practice providers and would jeopardize patient safety. Collectively, MAFP and MAOFP represent more than 4,500 family physicians and family physicians-in-training across the state.
